About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal construction contract to build barbwire fencing near Kalamazoo Campground on the Ely Ranger District in Nevada.
The project involves constructing approximately 0.5 miles (2,500 feet) of new barbwire drift fences to exclude active grazing within Kalamazoo Campground, addressing livestock safety hazards and public complaints. The work includes installation of an estimated four 12-foot wire gates as a lump sum. All brace and anchor posts must be schedule-40 galvanized steel except for wood posts at wire gates. Fences will end at natural rock barriers, with a potential rock crib brace required at the northeast end, and fence wings will tie into existing cattleguards along Forest Service Road 427. Vegetation clearing is permitted using chainsaws or handsaws to maintain a straight fence line with no more than 12-inch deviation between braces. A clear corridor of 8 feet total width (4 feet on each side of centerline) and 8 feet above ground must be established, with slash scattered outside the corridor. Off-road vehicles may be authorized for post and supply transport with Contracting Officer Representative (COR) approval. Heavy equipment is prohibited for clearing. Work must comply with FP-24 Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects and Forest Service Supplement. The contract is estimated to start Summer 2027 with a Notice to Proceed issued for work to commence within 10 days. The base contract time is 90 calendar days from Notice to Proceed. The project location is approximately 80 minutes from Ely, Nevada, in White Pine County within Spring Valley adjacent to the High Schells Wilderness Area.
