About this file
This document is an Amendment (0001) to Solicitation 1240LT25R0043 for the San Juan Cattle Guard Replacement project in San Juan National Forest, Durango, Colorado. The U.S. Forest Service is seeking a contractor to replace 30 cattle guards across the forest, totaling 506 linear feet, with prefabricated concrete bases and steel grates. The amendment includes a Q&A document addressing contractor inquiries about project details such as location specifics, GPS coordinates, and site access. Key clarifications include confirming 30 cattle guard replacements (not 44 as previously stated), providing an Excel spreadsheet with detailed location information across three districts, and allowing contractors to independently visit proposed replacement sites with the caveat that some areas may be closed due to ongoing fires. Cattle guards will be priced by linear foot, with staging areas available at each road location.

SUBJECT: Summary of Changes, Amendment 0001, Questions and Answers, 1240LT25R0043 - San Juan Cattle Guard Replacement, San Juan, Colorado.
Contractor Questions:
1. Is there maps available for the San Juan cattle guard replacement job, as only 9 GPS coordinates were provided.
U.S. Forest Service Response:
There are multiple locations/roads, Attachment 7, Excel spreadsheet has been added to clarify. The spreadsheet has 3 tabs one for each District, 30 locations/roads in total.
2. 1.0 Scope of Work, it is stated to “Replace 44 failing cattle guards across the forest with prefabricated concrete bases and steel grates.” However, the Schedule of items only lists 30. Please clarify the quantity.
U.S. Forest Service Response:
The correct amount is 30, Statement of Work has been revised.
3. 11.0 Scope of Work, “Locations”, appears to only list 9 locations. Can the location of all proposed replacements be provided?
See Question #1 for answer.
4. Item 61907 on the Schedule of items shows a blanket price with unit call out of “each”. It appears that there are several different sizes required for the project and it would be more appropriate to price these based on size. Could the Schedule of items be changed to reflect pricing by size along with appropriate quantity of each size.
U.S. Forest Service Response:
Cattle guards are sold by the linear foot so you can take the total of 506 feet and divide by 30 to get a price per cattle guard.
5. Please confirm, although a formal site visit will not be conducted, the contractor is free to visit all proposed replacement location on their own volition.
That is correct although some areas may be closed due to ongoing fires.
6. On page 4 of the Statement of Work (SOW) the number of cattleguards under locations totals 9, what is the correct number of cattleguards?
7. On the Schedule of Items, the number of cattleguard replacements is 30, again what is the correct number of cattleguard replacements?
See Question #2 for answer.
8. On page 2 of the SOW the number of cattleguard replacements states 44, what is the correct number.
9. Please confirm the number of cattle guards for this project.
10. Please supply the GPS location for each.
11. Can a staging area for equipment and material on each road be made available.
Yes.
12. Are the products of Four Corners Precast in Farmington NM acceptable?
Specifications and Drawings cannot be evaluated at time of Solicitation.
