About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Carson Roof Replacement project. It addresses two key clarification points for potential contractors: shingle color/brand equivalency and warranty terms. For shingle specifications, contractors are informed that an equivalent architectural laminated shingle from other major manufacturers is acceptable, provided it matches the existing Owens Corning Oakridge Shingle in Brownwood shade. The contractor must submit a sample to the government for approval to ensure the best possible match. Regarding warranty, the document clarifies that a 30-year minimum warranty is required, noting a discrepancy in the specifications where page 12 may incorrectly state a different warranty term.

Question & Answer – Carson Roof Replacement
1. Shingle color/brand equivalency Please confirm whether an equivalent architectural laminated shingle from other major manufacturers that matches color/texture and other technical specifications of the existing shingles will be acceptable.
It shall be the responsibility of the contractor to ensure a near perfect match of the new shingles to the existing. The existing shingle is the Owens Corning Oakridge Shingle in the shade of Brownwood as indicated in the Carson City Roof Replacement Specs Page 13, SECTION 073110 - ASPHALT SHINGLES, subsection
2.2 B, and if the currently existing shingle is not available, other manufacturers are acceptable. The successful contractor shall submit a sample to the government prior to installation for approval to ensure best possible match.
2. Warranty term Please confirm the required warranty term we should price and submit (25-year vs.
30-year), including any required non-prorated period and installer workmanship warranty duration.
The warranty shall be 30-year minimum. It is correctly stated in the scope of work, but incorrect on page 12 of the specifications.
