About this file
This document is a set of planting data sheets for conifer and riparian reforestation projects on the Ochoco National Forest in Oregon for spring and fall 2026.
The conifer planting projects encompass four fire recovery areas: Crazy Creek Fire (1,493 total acres: 1,243 acres spring planting, 250 acres fall planting), Rail Ridge Fire (897 acres spring planting), Wiley Flat Fire (1,028 acres spring planting), and Lake Post-Harvest (36 acres spring planting with variable spacing). All conifer units specify 17 x 17 foot spacing with 150 trees per acre average, with permitted variations of ±25% to optimize microsites. Elevation ranges from 4,200 to 5,600 feet across predominantly northeast, north, and east-facing aspects with slope percentages between 10% and 45%. Suitable existing trees for spacing off include ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, and western larch measuring at least 12 inches tall with 30% live crown. The actual number of seedlings within units will not vary more than 25% from the listed average trees per acre, as determined by the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) prior to planting. Three units designated for Rail Ridge and one for Wiley Flat have walk-in access requirements noted for contractor logistical planning.
The riparian planting component covers 14.3 miles across seven creek locations (Drake, Florida, Maury, Pine, Sherwood, Shotgun, and Wildcat Creeks) at elevations between 4,550 and 4,800 feet, with a combined plant total not to exceed 5,500. Riparian units will be planted with variable spacing using a mixture of container and bareroot stock species directed by COR or Ground Treatment Manager, generally within 50 feet of the stream/riparian edge. Access for riparian units includes roadside and walk-in options via specified National Forest roads. No plant protection measures are included in the riparian contract scope.
