Electrical Motor Control Center Installation Project One – Stoneville, MS Questions and Answers
1. In reviewing the documents looking for the liquidated damages for this project (for bonding request purposes) but cannot find the data. Could you please tell me where to find it, or how much it is?
Answer: Liquidated Damages have not been recommended for this requirement and are not included.
2. Are we to abandon the existing UG conduits/conductors in place after they have been disconnected from the power source?
Answer: Yes.
3. There was mention of installing a new (owner supplied) generator as a part of this project. The site representative reiterated their desire for that work to be a part of this contract. Please confirm and if so, please provide instructions on the exact requirements of the contractor. Also, I have not taken a really deep dive into the documents, so please forgive me if this is already covered in the documents.
Answer: The WARU Genset has been added as a separate line item, please see document titled Specifications WARU Genset for further details.
4. Will you be sending out an attendance sheet for today’s site visit?
Answer: Sign in sheet has been added as an attachment.
5. Are power cords from the aerators to the disconnect pedestals provided by others?
Answer: USDA will provide aerators, supply cords, and male cord plugs. Contractor will provide the receptacle as shown in the plans at the pedestal.
6. Will power cord plugs to match receptacles be provided by others?
Answer: See Q5.
7. How do the aerators function when placed in Automatic? There does not appear to be any control wiring shown on the drawings. Is this wiring by others? The only specific reference found in the specifications with regard to the installation is in Section 01 00 11:
SECTION 01 00 11
1.1.3 Principal Features of Work:
A. Remove existing Aerator controls, wiring and associated hardware.
B. Provide and install new motor control center to operate aerators and interface with new oxygen monitoring and control system being installed by others. Provide all wiring and interface for a complete and operable system.
Answer: USDA requires the control panel switches to have an Automatic setting available for possible future oxygen monitoring system that will be installed and wired by others at a later date.
8. Is a drawing available which locates the oxygen monitoring system panel(s)?
Answer: See Q7.
9. Is there an installation and operation manual for the oxygen monitoring system available which defines the power requirements?
Answer: See Q7.
10. Drawing E-101 detail 4 is call for angle adapter to be install for each of the twist lock receptacles.
Currently there are no manufacturer who make an angle adapter that will mount flush to the 12’’x12’’x6’’ junction that will be weatherproof with an addition exposed back box. Please provided manufacture and catalog number of angle adapter that will flush on junction box .
Answer: The adapter drawn was a Hubbell HBL60CM55
11. Drawing E-100 and E-600 conduit schedule number 1 call for 1 ½’’ PVC conduit from the aerator control panel to JB J-AB1. The 1 ½’’ PVC conduit is schedule to have 12-#8 conductors and 48- #12 conductors for total of 60 conductor in the conduit. The 60 conductors exceed the 40% fill for a 1 ½’’ PVC conduit. How are we to procced? If this is not answered a subsequent change order will have to be considered and change the contract price.
Answer: There are not 60 conductors planned for that conduit. The motor circuits are single phase 208V and do not have a neutral. This would have 32-#12 and 8-#8 and a minimum #8 grounding conductor for a total of 41 conductors. There was an error in the fill calculations, however and the sizes were a size small on some lines of the conduit schedule. See below for the updated conduit schedule to replace the schedule on E-600. Added the basis and calculated value for fill to the schedule to help add clarity.

12. Drawing E-100 is call for new inground junctions. What type and size are required are the new junction boxes?
Answer: There are no size requirements other than code requirements based on the sizes and quantities of conduits entering. Box type shall be listed for intended use. Intent is for boxes to be installed below final gravel aggregate level. As noted in General Note 2 on E-001, these drawings are schematic in nature and do leave some flexibility for the contractor to optimize the solution based on the conditions.
13. Drawing E-101 under detail 4 is call for #8 bare ground to be install from each pedestal back the aerator control panel. The conduit schedule is call from ground conductors to be pulled for each circuit to each pedestal. The GFCI receptacle ground will need to be bond to the new junction box. Is the #8 bare still required?
Answer: Detail 4/E-101 requires a minimum #8 ground between the pedestal and the aerator control panel. The grounding conductor for the receptacle and motor circuits may be used to satisfy this requirement. If the grounding conductor within the conduit is used to satisfy this requirement, it may be stranded in lieu of copper.
14. On Drawing E-100, the scale under the center of the drawing calls for 1” to = 100’ under the Title “ Electrical Plan”. Then to the right bottom of E-100 there is a scale 1” = 20’ as this is a 5 to 1 discrepancy and could drastically affect bid pricing or inequalities in the electrical and GC bids.
Please clarify.
Answer: The drawing scale is 1” = 20’. The scale noted in the plan title is incorrect. The printed scale is correct.
15. Drawing E-101 detail 4 is call for angle adapter to be install for each of the twist lock receptacles.
Currently there are no manufacturer who make an angle adapter that will mount flush to the 12’’x12’’x6’’ junction that will be weatherproof with an addition exposed back box. Please provided manufacture and catalog number of angle adapter that will flush on junction box.
Answer: See Question 10.
16. Is there a desired manufacturer and/or part number on the cable protectors that are shown here on this page? There are a total of (80) of these and there are a lot of different options that have a wide range of costs..
Answer: The protector shall be a polyurethane, lay in cable ramp. The individual segments shall interlock so as to prevent independent movement between sections and associated damage to the cable. Each cable shall have an independent channel of min 0.75” diameter.
There are no ADA requirements for the cable ramps. The minimum load capacity may be reduced to 10,500lb/tire // 21,000lb/axle.

17. Why is it specified 16A 4-pole contactor with 2-no and 1-nc instead of a 16A 3-pole contactor with 2-no and 1-nc. The 4th pole is not being used in the wiring schematic.
Answer: A 3-pole contactor is acceptable.
18. Would the USDA consider extending the deadline for the quotes? This would allow contractors the time to produce their best offerings.
Answer: We will extend to August 20, at 2:00 p.m. Central.
