About this file
This is a technical specification section from a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Melaleuca Research & Quarantine Facility (DACW17-01-R-0015). The document details comprehensive requirements for glazing systems, greenhouse construction, and related installations. The RFP specifies two primary product sections: glazing materials and greenhouse glazing systems with associated equipment.
For glazing products, the specification requires float glass Type I (clear or tinted grey), insulating glass units meeting ASTM E 773 and E 774 standards with Class A performance, tempered glass (kind FT fully tempered), and laminated safety glass with polyvinyl butyral interlayers. Eight distinct glazing types are defined for various applications including exterior curtainwalls, interior doors, storefront windows, and greenhouse applications, with impact-resistant requirements per South Florida Building Code (Broward County Edition). Glazing accessories must include performed elastomeric tape, silicone sealants conforming to ASTM C 920, neoprene gaskets per ASTM C 509 and C 864, and silicone or neoprene setting blocks. The greenhouse glazing system and entry canopy must be based on the "2.375 Skin System" by Super Sky, Inc., with 0.125-inch minimum thickness extruded aluminum alloy (6063-T5, 6063-T6, or 601-T6) for principal supporting members. Additional requirements include rolling benches with galvanized steel tubing and expanded metal tops, and a motorized retractable shade curtain system by Cravo Equipment Company or approved equal, featuring stainless steel drive cables, UV-stabilized reinforcing tape, and dual sealed ball bearings. Installation must comply with GANA Glazing Manual standards, include water testing, visual inspection, and smoke testing to 0.10 inches of water pressure, with four copies of typed test reports required. The specification mandates field testing presence by the General Contractor, Installer/Manufacturer, Contracting Officer, and USDA/APHIS/PPQ Inspector, and requires provision of two extra glazing panels of each size delivered to USDA storage. No separate payment is made for glazing materials and work; all costs are included in applicable contract prices.
