AMENDMENT #1

HYALITE CANYON SLOPE STABILIZATION PROJECT

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BASED ON ONGOING WORK AT THE PROJECT SITE

The USFS is currently working on the final iteration of the temporary access road for the Hyalite drilling pads. The access road design has been modified to reduce and balance the earthwork, minimize damage to trees and landscape, and keep the grades generally below 25%. Several spots in the lower portion of the road exceed 25% but area at relatively safe locations for a steep grade (i.e. places with no side hill or significant danger of slipping off and rolling down a steep hill). Cut slopes have been steepened to 1H:1V based on observation of existing remnant cut slopes from the previous road that are still standing at 1H:1V.

The upper road above the existing soil nail wall is the most difficult and impactful part of the road. Currently the FS is working to install four (4) boreholes across the face of the slope for monitoring during the drilling operations as well as long term monitoring of the slope. However, the FS may need to consider forgoing installation of boring holes on the upper portion of the slope if the upper geotechnical test pit is able to penetrate to intact bedrock. The proposed boreholes will be equipped with monitoring and telemetry. The FS is also considering placing a data gator in a test pit piezometer.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS #1

The Following questions have been received via email:

1. Question: Was there a dirt work contractor who has been used at the Hyalite Canyon site previously for constructing access for the soil nail wall and geotechnical borings.

Answer: O’Keefe Drilling out of Butte, MT will be performing all the earthwork associated with re-establishing the road up to the soil nail/shotcrete wall. O’Keefe Drilling was not part of the original work performed at Hyalite Canyon back in 2011/12. GeoStabilization International (GSI) was the prime contractor on this work. Their sub, Hall Construction pioneered the original road.

2. Question: Are there more details on the drainage collection system? For example, what distances will the water from the drains have to be diverted and will this be done thru an existing culvert?

Answer: Contractor shall propose an appropriate drainage collection system. Water from the drainage collection system can be diverted through an existing culvert adjacent to the project site.

Sheet 2 of the drawings shows the approximate location of the existing culvert. A lat/long for the project site is listed on Sheet 1 of the drawings. Please refer to Google Earth (or similar programs) to determine approximate distances from drainage collections system.

3. Question: What lengths of pipe will be required for above ground diversion if any?

Answer: Please refer to Sheet 2 of Attachment J-4 Site Plan and Google Earth (or similar programs) for approximate measurements.

4. Question: Will standard well screen be used or can the contractor opt to fabricated the slotted pipe(s) themselves?

Answer: Yes, per the specifications slotted pipe is acceptable.

Amendment 0001

5. Question: Can water from Middle Creek be pumped/used for the work

Answer: Yes, water from Hyalite Creek can be used for the operations.

6. Question: What sources of water are available?

Answer: Hyalite Creek.

7. Question: If used, will Options 1 & 2 have to be performed during the same work period, i.e. will the same completion date of 9/30/2021 still apply?

Answer: Yes, all work base and options must be completed by 9/30/21. Please see Section C-1.7 for Period of Performance information.

8. Question: Where can the full specs from Attachment J-3 be found?

Answer: All specifications and drawings related to this project can be download from the solicitation site on the Beta.SAM (Contract Opportunities) website.

9. Question: Section 610.05 requires that " During drilling, determine the elevation of the drilled hole at 50-foot (15-meter) intervals and at the upper end of the completed horizontal drain hole by inserting tubes or pipes and measuring liquid levels or by other approved means." Is there any info on this test procedure?...I think I see what you are getting at but I want to be sure. Run a long piece of tube up inside the drill tooling to the end. Take the other end of the tube and walk it up the slope of the hill. Add water to the uphill end of the tube and wait to see where the hydrostatic level settles to, then measure the height of the water column from, for example, the road surface. Is this about right? How precise does this have to be (tolerance)?

Answer: There is no additional information on this test procedure. The Contractor is free to provide an alternate means for determining elevation of the drilled hole for review and approval by the

USFS.

10. Question: Will the use of down the hole hammers be allowed?

Answer: Please See Attachment J-3 Hyalite Canyon FSSS, Section 610.05, “Drill holes with rotary equipment …” DTH drilling can be defined as ‘rotary percussion drilling.” If the Contractor’s proposed drilling method utilizes rotary equipment, their proposed drilling equipment will be allowed.
