Questions/comments were emailed in regarding the rock for the Dangerous River Boat Launch project –
Comment 1: Drawing Sheet (page) 6 / Note #2 – Shot rock is referenced in this note
Comment 2: Parking lot fill – 6” minus / Shot rock is referenced
Comment 3: Drawing Sheet (page) 8 / under the boat launch – Shot Rock / Rip Rap is referenced
Comment 4: Confirm that there is a clear expectation that all Shot Rock/ Rip Rap rock which is possibly upwards of 10,000 yards is to be imported material.
Forest Service Response to Comment 1: Drawing Sheet 6: Replace Note #2 with the following: “FOR
ROAD EMBANKMENTS DEEPER THAN 4 FT, CUT DOWN AND REMOVE BRUSH PRIOR TO
INSTALLING UNCLASSIFIED BORROW.” See Section 312300, part 2.1 for Unclassified Borrow requirements.
Forest Service Response to Comment 2: Drawing Sheet 9, Detail 3: Unclassified borrow is acceptable in lieu of 6” minus shot rock fill. The upper six inches of borrow or fill must not contain particles larger than two inches.
Forest Service Response to Comment 3: Drawing Sheet 8: In lieu of the 6” minus shot rock borrow, functioning as subbase for the concrete deck planks, the following materials are acceptable if geotextile fabric is provided between the subgrade and the bottom of the alternate subbase:
a. Unclassified borrow per Project Specification Section 312300, part 2.1 E, except maximum particle size to be 6 inches.
b. Aggregate base course per Alaska DOT Standard Specifications, 2017 edition, Section 703-2.03, Grading C-1 or D-1. If this material is selected for subbase, then geotextile fabric is not required directly below the timber sills.
c. Subbase per Alaska DOT Standard Specifications, 2017 edition, Section 703-2.09, Grading A, B, C, or D.
d. Porous Backfill Material per Alaska DOT Standard Specifications, 2017 edition, Section 703-2.10.
e. Structural Fill per Alaska DOT Standard Specifications, 2017 edition, Section 703-2.13.
f. If the contractor proposes to use a different subbase material than those listed above, a substitution request is required.
Forest Service Response to Comment 4:
1. The design intent is to use material available in Yakutat. However, the Forest Service does not know whether material sources in Yakutat will have the sufficient quantities of the required materials to complete the project. It is the Offeror’s responsibility to verify material availability.
2. The Government’s estimate of subbase and riprap material in-place quantities needed for the boat launch:
a. Subbase (6” minus shot rock borrow or approved equivalent): 150 CY
b. Class IV riprap: 275 CY
c. Class V riprap: 60 CY
NOTE: The quantities identified above are the Government’s best estimate. The quantities are not exact and provided for information purposes only. It is the contractor’s responsibility to make their own quantity estimates.
