About this file

This amendment modifies the solicitation for the Gibbs Wash Bridge Replacement project in the Coronado National Forest in Arizona. The Forest Service revised the statement of work to update the staging area map and potential sources for surfacing aggregate. A local mining company can now provide the needed aggregate instead of a Forest Service pit. In response to questions, the Forest Service indicated subsurface investigation included two test pits with unspecified locations and probe tests, estimating soil depth is less than two feet. Manufacturers are responsible for culvert design, and the opening was sized to accommodate available arch sizes and corrugations without concrete thrust beams if not required.

14. DESCRIPTION OF AMENDMENT/MODIFICATION (Organized by UCF section headings, including solicitation/contract subject matter where feasible.)

GAOA GIBBS WASH BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, CORONADO NATIONAL FOREST

1.RFP, Section J, Attachment 4, “Delete” and substitute the attached revised SOW: The staging area map and the details on potential sources of Grade G surfacing aggregate were changed. The previous SOW referenced a Forest Service pit as a potential source of surfacing aggregate, at this point this option is eliminated. The revised SOW (Attachment 1) has the contact for a local mining company that can produce the needed aggregate.

2. RFI, Question 1: Was a subsurface geotechnical investigation performed in the project area?

RFI Response: Two test pits were dug, but the locations were not recorded, see test pit sieve results (Attachment 2). Based on the two pits and 14 Williamson Drive probe test locations, the estimated soil depth in the area is less than 2 feet.

3. RFI, Question 2: Will you please advise on the question below concerning the arch material? According to the supplier the arch details in the drawing are not current, the recommendation below is the current standard.

In reference to the large steel Culvert for the Gibb Wash Bridge Replacement, could a BridgeCor Steel Arch, or equal, be acceptable in lieu of the Super Span arch currently depicted on page C-10? BridgeCor steel arch plates have a deeper x wider corrugation profile (15” x 5.5” versus standard 6” x 2”) than the Super Span arches, and are therefore 9x as stiff and do not require any CIP concrete thrust beams like the currently designed arch does. Please see attached pages detailing the BridgeCor spec and common shapes, as well as a couple snapshots below. Happy to provide the coordinates of any of the attached shapes for the EOR to verify hydraulics or any other supporting information. Please confirm a similar shape is acceptable for use in the wash crossing. Thank you!”

RFI, Response: Sheet C-02 of the drawings states the culvert manufacturer is responsible for design of the culvert. This includes structural plate corrugations and thrust beams if they are necessary. The opening was designed with plenty of freeboard to accommodate any corrugation available for an arch of this size.

Except as provided herein, all terms and conditions of the document referenced in Item 9A or 10A, as heretofore changed, remains unchanged and in full force and effect.
