About this file
This is a project overview document for the City of Brownsville, Texas, detailing the Coffee Road at Paredes Line Road Traffic Signal Improvements Project. The project involves comprehensive replacement of the existing traffic signal system at this intersection, including removal of obsolete equipment and installation of new infrastructure designed to current standards and best practices. The scope encompasses new traffic signal poles and mast arms, LED signal heads, pedestrian signal heads, upgraded controller cabinet and detection equipment, underground conduit and wiring, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components such as advanced traffic detection, emergency vehicle preemption, and communications equipment. The project also includes ADA-compliant pedestrian improvements with accessible pedestrian signal features, pavement markings, signage upgrades, and electrical service improvements. All work will conform to the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TxMUTCD), the National Electrical Code (NEC), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and applicable federal, state, and local standards. The work will be coordinated with the concurrent Coffee Road Roadway Drainage and Utility Improvements project, which includes widening Coffee Road from two to three lanes.
The project is intended to modernize traffic operations, enhance safety and accessibility at the intersection, and support advanced traffic management capabilities through ITS integration. The existing equipment has reached the end of its useful life and no longer meets modern operational, detection, and accessibility requirements. The upgraded signal system will improve vehicular traffic flow, enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility, and ensure compatibility with future corridor improvements and regional traffic management initiatives. The document does not include information regarding pricing terms, set asides, bidder deadlines, site visits, bidders' conferences, funding sources, or contract award details.
