About this file

This is a Request for Bids (RFB) document from the Iowa Department of Corrections for the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility (FDCF), seeking fiber optic cabling installation services. The solicitation (Number 005-RFB-0162-2022) was opened on 9/15/2022 and closed on 10/18/2022, with a bid submission deadline of 2:00 PM CDT. The project involves installing new fiber cabling at the prison campus to support upgraded networking infrastructure, including the replacement of existing analog camera systems with IP cameras, increased video conferencing capabilities, and expanding building management systems. The facility, located in Fort Dodge, Iowa, is a medium-security prison originally designed to house 762 adult male inmates, with a current rated capacity of 1,162 and an actual capacity of 1,362.

The project aims to address the facility's growing technological needs, particularly the expansion of network-dependent systems. The existing infrastructure, which currently supports approximately 142 cameras running on copper coax, has been partially upgraded to IP cameras, and the facility requires enhanced fiber optic capabilities to support future demands such as live streaming 4K cameras, telephone systems, and video conferencing. The bid is structured as a lump sum (LS) service line item, with commodity codes 83829 and 96218 covering fiber optic cables, interconnecting components, and installation services. The solicitation includes multiple addendums and a confidentiality form, indicating a comprehensive and detailed procurement process. The contact for the bid is Jeff Just, who can be reached at jeff.just@iowa.gov or +1 515-330-8702.

The Fort Dodge Correctional Facility (FDCF)located at 1550 L Street, Fort Dodge Iowa is seeking Bids to install new fiber cabling at the prison campus.

FDCF had an analog camera count of approx. 142 cameras running on copper coax. We have successfully upgraded approximately half of those to various types of IP cameras. Video conferencing and video visiting have also become more common over the past two years. Our future demand to increase live streaming 4K cameras, telephone, video conferencing, along with the original office and building management systems is beyond what our current fiber can support.

The Fort Dodge Correctional Facility (FDCF) is a medium security prison originally designed to house 762 adult male Incarcerated Individuals in a double occupancy celled environment. Construction began in October 1996 and the facility opened in April 1998. The facility is located on 60 acres of land in southern Fort Dodge. Recognizing the on-going need for public safety even before the first offenders arrived at the facility the legislature and Governor approved an expansion for an additional 400 beds and program space. Work on this addition was completed in late 1999. In FY01 127 two-man cells were converted to house three offenders. Current rated capacity is 1162 with actual capacity of 1362.

The networking needs at FDCF have continued to increase over the years with more computer networking needs, video conferencing, and recently a conversion of our analog camera system to IP cameras.
