About this file
This is a product specification document for engineered playground wood fiber required by Sevier School District in Utah for a playground surfacing project. The district is seeking bids for 550 cubic yards of engineered wood fiber material to be delivered to five locations within Sevier County. The material must be 100% virgin wood (hardwood or softwood) processed into soft, fibrous particles and must meet ASTM Standards, including ASTM F2075 for particle size, ASTM F1292 for impact attenuation, ASTM F1951 for accessibility, and CFR 1630/1631 for flammability resistance. The engineered wood fiber must be free from bark, twigs, leaves, toxic chemicals, tramp metal, and recycled materials, with a blondish-brown to light brown appearance and uniform fibrous texture that demonstrates high shock absorption capabilities and forms a firm, stable surface suitable for wheelchair, walker, and stroller access.
The specification document establishes the technical requirements for particle size distribution, with particles passing through a 3/4-inch sieve and minimal fines to ensure proper drainage and prevent compaction. Bidders must provide quotes for the complete delivery of 550 cubic yards meeting all performance standards and physical requirements outlined in the specification. No information regarding pricing terms, set-asides, response dates, delivery deadlines, or funding sources is included in this specification document.

Playground Wood Chips
1. Product Description (Engineered Wood Fiber)
● Material: 100% virgin wood (hardwood or softwood) processed into soft, fibrous particles.
● Contaminants: Free from bark, twigs, leaves, toxic chemicals, tramp metal, or recycled materials (e.g., pallets).
● Appearance: Blondish-brown to light brown in color, fibrous, and uniform in texture.
● Must meet ASTM Standards.
2. Physical Performance Standards (ASTM)
● Particle Size (ASTM F2075): Particles must be random-sized, with a high percentage passing through a 3/4-inch sieve. Must have minimal "fines"
(dust/dirt) to allow for drainage and reduce compaction.
● Impact Attenuation (ASTM F1292): The material must demonstrate high shock absorption to meet critical fall height requirements for the equipment installed.
● Accessibility (ASTM F1951): The material must form a "knitted" layer that is firm and stable enough for wheelchair, walker, and stroller access.
● Flammability (CFR 1630/1631): Material must meet standards for resistance to fire.
