About this file
This is a Job Specification for preservation work on the USS TRIPOLI (LHA-7), a naval vessel. The work involves cleaning and preservation of the bilge area in Fire Pump and Refrigerant Machinery Room 6-45-0-E, totaling 1,000 square feet designated as a "Critical Coated Area." The anticipated award date is September 11, 2026, with a production completion date of December 18, 2026. The period of performance runs from October 7, 2026, through January 29, 2027, with the work being performed at Sasebo. The preparing activity is SASEBO, and work authorization is managed through the SRF-JRMC Detachment.
The scope requires removal and reinstallation of existing floor deck plates with new corrosion-resistant steel (CRES) fasteners, chasing and tapping exposed thread areas, and high-pressure cleaning and gas-freeing of bilge spaces using portable air-driven pumps. Environmental controls include ventilation of harmful vapors to the exterior, waste liquid disposal to government-provided conveyance with spill containment measures, and periodic inspections of piping and hose alignment. Cleaning and preservation must comply with SSPC standards (SP-11, SP-WJ-2/L, SP-3, SP-2, and SP-1 depending on surface accessibility), with subsequent application of bilge red coating. Non-ferrous piping requires solvent cleaning and bilge red coating. Government-furnished materials include 350 CRES machine screws with nylon locking strips (5/16"-18UNC-2A, 3/4 inch) and 4 tubes of antiseize compound. A Marine Chemist certificate is required prior to work commencement.
