SECTION 01 11 00
SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 LOCATION
A. Work is located approximately 8.0 miles southeast of Columbia Falls, Montana in Flathead County.
1.02 PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS OF WORK
A. The work to be done includes the furnishing of all labor, material, transportation, tools, supplies, plant equipment and appurtenances, unless hereinafter specifically excepted, necessary for the complete and satisfactory construction and testing of a public water supply well to serve the Hungry Horse Dam. The work will be done on a unit rate basis in accordance with the Price Schedule.
B. Coordination with Engineer and Bureau of Reclamation is required prior to the contractor mobilizing and demobilizing drill rig, or any vehicle in excess of 32 kips, across the BPA Access Bridge. A load analysis was performed for the bridge and safety precautions must be coordinated. Longitudinal movement of the bridge beams must be prevented while the drill rig crosses the bridge. BOR will be responsible for providing all materials and manpower to facilitate the modifications to the bridge for safe passage. Contractor is prohibited from crossing the bridge with the drill rig, or any vehicle in excess of 32 kips, without consent from Engineer and BOR. Contractor shall limit truck speed to 5mph on the bridge and avoid any spontaneous braking or accelerating.
C. The well is designed to be drilled to a total depth between 450 and 750 feet below ground surface (bgs), with an designed well yield of 10 to 35 gallons per minute (GPM). Contract Drawings is a schematic of the proposed well design. As shown, a temporary 12-inch inner diameter (ID) temporary conductor casing will initially be drilled to facilitate construction of the surface seal. The 12-inch temporary conductor casing shall be installed to a depth of 35 feet or at least 3 feet into competent bedrock, whichever is greater. An 8-inch ID permanent surface casing (with drive shoe) will be installed to a depth of at least 1-foot greater than the temporary conductor casing. The 8-inch ID surface casing shall be seated into competent bedrock to allow for installation of the surface seal. An 8-inch borehole will then be advanced to the anticipated final depth of 450 to 650 feet bgs, the bottom 50-feet of liner will have slots approximately ¼-inch wide by 6-inches long. The exact depth and location of the plasma cut slots will be determined in the field based on the conditions encountered. The 6-inch liner shall extend from the bottom of the borehole to a depth of 15-feet bgs to ensure it
Summary of Work
01 11 00 - 2 does not interfere with installation of a pitless adapter (to be installed under future contract). The annulus between the temporary conductor casing and permanent surface casing will be sealed with bentonite-cement grout (including up to four-percent bentonite).
