About this file

This document is a Facility Signage Guide for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that serves as Exhibit D to Lease No. 57-18069-26-FA (April 2014). The guide establishes standards for the development and implementation of comprehensive signage and wayfinding systems for USDA facilities, covering both exterior and interior applications.

The guide mandates that all USDA interior facility signage designating permanent rooms or spaces must comply with ADA standards (www.ADA.gov), and facilities within the Washington, DC metropolitan area must comply with special DC/Metro signage requirements through the Office of Operations (OAO). Signature lockups combining the USDA Symbol and Department name must appear on all facility signage and be positioned at the top of any sign above the Agency name. Only signature lockups supplied by USDA's Office of Communications are acceptable; font substitution is prohibited. The official colors are dark blue (PMS 288) and dark green (PMS 343), with acceptable variations in one-color or color-background formats. The USDA Symbol must be at least 14% of signage height (minimum 0.75 inches) with clearance space equal to the width of the symbol's letter "A." The guide provides detailed specifications for free-standing signage, building-mounted signage (including street address or site number requirements), directional signage with arrows positioned outside the clearance space, office room signage (both USDA and non-USDA facilities, with ADA-compliant braille), and building directories. The objective is not to replace existing signage but to ensure compliance when signs require replacement. Initials from both lessor and government representatives are required on each page.
