About this file
This document is a project specification attachment for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) I-5 District 3 and 4 Spall Repairs project. The project involves repairing longitudinal and transverse cracks, and exposed rebar spalls along specific sections of Interstate 5, spanning approximately 15 miles between mile posts 226 and 280.5. The repairs will be conducted in northbound and southbound lanes during night work hours (9 PM to 5 AM, Sunday through Thursday), with a total of approximately 722.8 cubic feet (41.93 tons) of Craftco Mastic 1 material to be applied. Specific repair locations include longitudinal cracks in two sections totaling 2,800 linear feet, transverse cracks in the southbound lane, and exposed rebar spalls in multiple sections of continuously reinforced concrete pavement.
The project will be executed using materials furnished by ODOT, with a manufacturer representative on-site during installation. Materials will be delivered to the ODOT maintenance yard in Woodburn, Oregon, for contractor pickup. Payment will be structured on a weight basis for mastic application, including equipment rental, with compensation covering material acquisition, surface preparation, and mastic application according to manufacturer instructions. The bid pricing form will detail all billable work items, and no additional payments will be made for work not explicitly indicated in the form. The specification indicates that ODOT will coordinate material delivery and provide technical oversight through the designated Project Manager, Corry Lovingier.

4. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
LOCATIONS:
The intent of this project is to repair longitudinal cracks, transverse cracks, and rebar spalls along a few sections of I5.
1. The longitudinal cracks are in ACP from MP275-276.5 (1.5 miles) and from MP280-280.5 (0.5 miles). The exact locations of the repairs are sporadic throughout these two sections, but they are all in the NB direction on the “C” lane fog line joint. The first section has a total of 2,500 LF of crack that is on average 8” wide by 4” deep. The second section has a total of 300 LF and has the same average width and depth. If ACP is rubblized along the crack, the contractor is to pick out and remove any loose ACP chunks and clean the joint before applying mastic. These repair locations will take approximately 622.2 CUFT (36.09 Tons) of mastic material.
2. The transverse cracks are located on areas of I5 that have an overlay of ACP on top of plain jointed concrete. The section is located in the SB “B” lane from MP237.00-234.62 (where the concrete begins). Since the cracks are reflecting up through the ACP at the underlying concrete joints, the repair locations are all approximately 50’ apart. The SB direction has about 28 locations requiring repair. The repairs are on average 5” wide, 6’ long, and 1” deep, totaling approximately 5.8 CUFT (0.34 Tons) of mastic material. Contractor to clean spall areas prior to mastic install.
3. The exposed rebar spall repairs are located on areas of I5 that are continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP). The sections are located in the NB “B” lane from MP228.995-234.710 (5.715 miles), and in the SB “B” lane from MP234.520-226.876 (7.644 miles). The NB direction has 20 locations that average 8.00 SQFT per repair (0.83 SQFT - 41.67 SQFT), and the SB direction has 23 locations that average 9.53 SQFT per repair (0.83 SQFT - 50.00 SQFT). Contractor to clean spall areas prior to mastic install. Assuming that the average repair is 3” deep, this section will take approximately 94.8 CUFT (5.50 Tons) of mastic material.
4. The total amount of material to be installed is 722.8 CUFT (41.93 Tons) of Mastic.
MATERIAL:
The mastic material to be installed is Craftco Mastic 1 (Part # 33339-PM-WY56) and comes in 40-pound meltable packets. The material will be furnished by ODOT, and ODOT will coordinate having a manufacturer representative onsite during installation. The materials will be delivered to the ODOT maintenance yard at 1375 Blain St Woodburn, Or 97071 for Contractor pickup each night work will begin.
