UNSPSC 40141632: Sentinel valves

UNSPSC 40141632 Sentinel valves is a Commodity code, but the recent state and local contract opportunities posted under this code show a stark mismatch between the taxonomy label and actual procurement activity. The code designation suggests sentinel or check valve components for fluid systems, yet the source opportunities span backpacks and tactical gear, fencing and gate operators, slide gates for water treatment plants, butterfly valves, resilient gate and tapping valves, check valve replacement parts, and actuator components—none of which align with the narrow scope of "sentinel valves" as a discrete product line. The few opportunities that do involve valves—City of Tampa's RFQs for Kennedy check valve and swing check valve repair parts (June 2026), Gwinnett County's solicitations for butterfly valves, resilient valves, and slide gates for the Lanier and Shoal Creek Filter Plants (April–June 2026), and Seminole County's sole-source procurement for REXA actuator parts—represent water infrastructure and wastewater treatment maintenance rather than sentinel valve procurement per se. The issuing bodies are primarily water utilities and county water departments (Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources, City of Tampa Water Department, Seminole County wastewater treatment), with one state procurement office (Texas Office of the Attorney General for tactical gear) and one school district (Pinellas County) appearing in unrelated line items.

Geographic activity clusters in Georgia (Gwinnett County) and Florida (City of Tampa, Seminole County) for water infrastructure valve purchases, with secondary activity in Texas and the broader jurisdictions reached through Sourcewell's cooperative purchasing vehicle. The most relevant recent opportunities include Gwinnett County's September 2026 IFB for butterfly valves in four sizes for two filter plants (BL126-26, due September 23, 2026) with detailed AWWA and NSF certification requirements; City of Tampa's May–June 2026 RFQs for Kennedy check valve components; and Gwinnett County's April 2026 sealed bid for 108-inch slide gates for the Lanier Filter Plant (BL044-26). No current solicitation directly names sentinel valves as a discrete procurement item. The code appears poorly aligned with state and local purchase patterns, and firms evaluating this code should verify whether the UNSPSC categorization reflects current buying practice or represents orphaned taxonomy.
