UNSPSC 24111802: Air or gas tanks or cylinders

UNSPSC 24111802 Air or gas tanks or cylinders is a Commodity code covering the procurement of pressurized containers and related gas delivery equipment for municipal, county, and state operations. State and local governments are buying chlorine gas cylinders for water treatment and pool operations, industrial and laboratory gases (nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, helium, acetylene) for welding programs and forensic testing, medical gases (nitrous oxide, oxygen) meeting USP standards, and dewar rental and cylinder recertification services. The issuing bodies include city parks departments, community college districts, county forensic institutes, and state procurement offices. Recent solicitations show a mix of small periodic purchases (chlorine cylinders for seasonal pool operations) and larger multi-vendor contracts supporting ongoing operational and instructional needs.

Activity is geographically concentrated in Texas, where the State Comptroller's Statewide Procurement Division issued a Request for Information in March 2026 for a mandatory statewide delivery term contract covering laboratory, medical, and welding gases plus dewar rental across all 25 TxDOT Highway Districts with an estimated five-year term. Recent representative opportunities include the City of Pittsburgh Office of Management & Budget soliciting chlorine gas cylinders (150-pound containers meeting AWWA B301 specifications) under IFB 2026-IFB-098 with bids due August 14, 2026, for supply beginning October 1, 2026 with DBE participation goals of 18% minority-owned, 7% women-owned, 5% veteran-owned, and 3% LGBTQIA+ businesses; Collin College issuing ITB FY2024-ITB-020 for welding materials and supplies under a three-year contract with a bid deadline of March 19, 2024, and estimated annual volume of $400,000; and Harris County Institute of Forensic Science requesting bids on specialty chemicals and industrial gases under ITB 260132 with bids due July 20, 2026.
