NIGP 40023: Castings, Beryllium

NIGP 40023 Castings, Beryllium, an Item code, covers specialized metal castings used in aerospace, defense, and industrial applications where beryllium's high strength-to-weight ratio, thermal conductivity, and radiation transparency are critical. State and local governments procure beryllium castings primarily through defense contractors, aerospace suppliers, and specialized foundries serving as vendors to public agencies rather than as direct purchasers themselves. The code captures procurement of finished beryllium casting components and assemblies meeting strict metallurgical and dimensional specifications, often with traceability and material certification requirements tied to federal or military standards.

The source material contains no recent state and local contract opportunities under this code. Beryllium castings represent a specialized, low-volume procurement category with limited direct demand from typical state and local buyers such as counties, municipalities, school districts, or transit authorities. Activity under this code, when it occurs, typically flows through defense-related state procurement offices, national laboratories operated by states, or specialized public agencies in aerospace hubs; however, no opportunities are currently posted to support a characterization of geographic spread or issuing-body patterns.
