This $193,677 project grant from the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will fund the Lehigh Carbon Community College's enrollment of at least 35 students in its Commercial Driver's License program through September 2024. The college anticipates a tuition cost of $5,000 per student under this award to recruit and enroll qualified individuals and members of underserved communities in eastern Pennsylvania. The funding supports the expansion of commercial driver training under the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grants program, with the goal of reducing crashes involving commercial vehicles on U.S. roads by increasing the number of operators with enhanced safety instruction. As an accredited institution, Lehigh Carbon Community College is well-positioned to provide this training to help meet an important national safety objective over the next two years.
