Westcare Nevada, Inc. received a $500,000 Project Grant from the Department of Labor's Veterans Employment and Training Service under the Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program (CFDA 17.805) effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. The award funds comprehensive employment and supportive services targeting homeless veterans and veterans at-risk of homelessness in Washoe County, Nevada. Services include job readiness and vocational training (adult basic education, apprenticeship training, occupational skills training, customized on-the-job training), employment development and placement services, vocational rehabilitation, and employment adjustment support. Additionally, the program provides wraparound supportive services comprising case management, mentorship, financial literacy training, transportation, and substance abuse and co-occurring mental health treatment.
The grant's housing assistance component is designed to house or rapidly connect approximately 125 clients annually to permanent housing. Key expected outcomes include enrolling eligible veterans, stabilizing clients through coordinated service connections, increasing job readiness, improving employment rates among participants, and ensuring competitive wages aligned with national objectives. Westcare Nevada will collaborate with local partners including the Continuum of Care, Reno VA Employment Specialist, and employment service providers to deliver integrated services supporting veteran economic self-sufficiency and housing stability.
