Description

Structural barriers that vulnerable populations face include limited land access, financial resources, project support, and marketing channels. This proposal seeks to overcome these structural barriers with the aim of achieving stronger and healthier food systems for vulnerable communities in the BAY area.with the goals of reducing food and nutritional insecurity; generating self-sustaining businesses and income; and filling the generational GAP and diversifying the demographics of farmers practicing sustainable agriculture, this project will improve quality of life for vulnerable communities and contribute to building a thriving, diverse, equitable, and resilient food system in the BAY area.plans to accomplish these goals include: convening a multi-sector advisory council, facilitating a community food educator's circle, coordinating community workshops on food and nutrition, launching a cooperative farm business model for sustainable food production and distribution, establishing innovative and inter-sector marketing channels, and offering advanced training opportunities in farming and food projects including funded apprenticeships, mentorship sessions, and start-up project support to members of vulnerable populations.by seeding funds to members of vulnerable populations for educational and land-based initiatives, this project will stimulate community-driven, comprehensive responses to production, access, nutrition, and health issues facing the BAY area. This infusion of funding will jump-start the formation of an alternative food web that supports vulnerable, low-income communities, people of color, the formerly incarcerated, immigrants, and beginning farmers.
