About this award

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded a $1.376 million cooperative agreement to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on September 30, 2025, under the HIV/AIDS Surveillance program (CFDA 93.944) to support the Medical Monitoring Project through September 29, 2030. Michigan conducts participant interviews and medical record abstractions to assess quality of care, guide resource allocation, and contribute to national HIV care improvement efforts. The Medical Monitoring Project staff integrate with HIV surveillance infrastructure, accessing the Enhanced HIV/AIDS Registry, Electronic Laboratory Management System, and Michigan Disease Surveillance System to capture demographics, care status, health facility, and laboratory data. Between 2020 and 2023, Michigan completed 780 participant interviews and 745 medical record abstractions while meeting all performance benchmarks under case surveillance-based sampling methodology. The surveillance program maintains high data completeness rates: 99 percent for name and date of birth, 90 percent for full addresses, and 37 percent for phone numbers on prevalent cases in the National HIV Surveillance System. Medical Monitoring Project data informs national and local assessments of unmet needs, behaviors, and care trends for people with HIV. Performance occurs in Michigan.
