Description

Activities
The project team will engage in outreach to broaden the stakeholder group involved in the roadmapping process and form a viable and sustainable consortium. A literature review and expert interviews will be conducted to assess the current situation and possible future developments in addition to critically assessing AI-enhanced multimodal sensing of materials and processes. Additionally, three collaborative workshops will be held to gather information and stakeholder input on (1) materials, manufacturing, and process model drivers for AI development, (2) multimodal sensing, automation, and feedback control drivers for AI development, and (3) product lifecycle drivers for AI development and systems.
Expected outcomes
The roadmap developed will support integration of process and material product monitoring and learning over the full product lifecycle to strengthen U.S. Leadership in the advanced materials manufacturing sectors.
Intended beneficiaries
US manufacturers and manufacturing researchers will benefit from this collaborative approach between public and private sectors, including academia, industry (small, medium, and large) to identify the manufacturing and research challenges, sensors, and data needs to create an evolution of processes and products from cradle-to-grave.
Subrecipient activities
There are no subrecipients for this project; however, the recipient plans to subaward funds for two contracts to support the roadmap development including stakeholder recruitment and engagement, facilitation of virtual workshops, interviews and, synthesizing the resulting insights into a final report for dissemination, and consortium-building efforts.
