NASA's Shared Services Center awarded a purchase order to Electroimpact Inc. on January 1, 2027, for design, integration, documentation, and training on Class IV laser safety interlocks, with a ceiling value of $234,584 and a final completion date of March 31, 2027.
Work is performed at Mukilteo, Washington. The requirement supports the Integrated Structural Assembly of Advanced Composites (ISAAC) facility at NASA Langley Research Center, where an upgraded Automated Fiber Placement end effector now includes a Class IV laser heating system for thermoplastic composite manufacturing. Electroimpact must design and integrate physical, electronic, or software interlocks to interrupt robot and laser operation if triggered, perform baseline and acceptance testing of the laser system and all potentially impacted systems, and deliver onsite operator training to NASA Langley personnel covering AFP end effector operation, safety interlock functionality, laser system procedures, and manufacturing methods. Deliverables include drawings, operation manuals, and training materials. This procurement was issued as a sole-source commercial item under FAR 12.102(a) and FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i).
