About this award

NASA Glenn Research Center awarded a $238.1 million definitive contract to Aerojet Rocketdyne, Inc. on May 16, 2016, for development and delivery of advanced electric propulsion (EP) string sets under the Space Technology Mission Directorate's Advanced Electric Propulsion System (AEPS) program, which aims to demonstrate solar electric propulsion capability for deep space human and robotic exploration. The contract carries no set-aside designation and operates on a cost-plus-fixed-fee pricing structure.

During the base period through August 4, 2027, Aerojet Rocketdyne will develop, test, and deliver engineering development end items to reduce flight development risk. If exercised, the option period requires development, verification, and delivery of flight-qualified end items. Place of performance is Redmond, WA.

The subcontractor team includes Agilent Technologies Inc. (analytical testing services), Experior Laboratories, LLC (precision engineering and materials testing), Electro-Magnetic Applications, Incorporated (applied electromagnetics and simulation), Moog Inc. (motion control and shock testing), Drake Plastics, LTD CO. (specialized plastic components including Vespel parts), and Insulation Sources Inc., a woman-owned HUBZone-certified small business (electrical insulation materials and components).

In FY2025, the prime invoiced $13.7 million with a labor footprint of 27.1 full-time equivalents, performing all work internally without subcontract support through SCI-reportable channels.

Description

NASA, through the space technology mission directorate (stmd,) seeks to demonstrate an advanced solar electric propulsion (EP) system that will enable future deep space human and robotic exploration applicable to the united states private and public sector space needs. The purpose of the advanced electric propulsion (EP) system (aeps) contract is the development and delivery of EP string sets to support an advanced SEP demonstration mission. During the contract base period of performance, the contractor will develop, test, and deliver engineering development end items that will reduce the risk of developing the flight end items. During the option period of performance, if exercised, the contractor will develop, verify, and deliver the flight end items.
