About the company
Wetlands Watch is a non-profit organization focused on wetlands conservation and restoration, as well as community resilience, in coastal Virginia. Through federal grants, Wetlands Watch provides technical assistance, training, and outreach to local governments related to floodplain management, hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System, and coastal resilience.
Wetlands Watch has received multiple subawards from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality using federal Coastal Zone Management funds. These subawards have supported Wetlands Watch in providing extensive training, evaluation, and guidance to localities in Virginia's coastal zone on joining and excelling in the Community Rating System program. Outreach includes facilitating a Coastal Virginia CRS Workgroup for information sharing, creating educational videos, and offering in-person CRS workshops. Additionally, Wetlands Watch partners with Virginia's Resilience Adaptation Feasibility Tool (RAFT) program to integrate CRS and floodplain management information into the RAFT community resilience planning process. Wetlands Watch also provides general technical assistance on coastal resilience to regional Planning District Commissions. Through a subaward to compile a database of coastal resilience projects across Virginia, Wetlands Watch conducts outreach to stakeholders to populate the database and identify barriers to financing resilience projects.
