About The Mcshin Foundation
The McShin Foundation, also doing business as NCADD of Richmond, is a non-profit organization and Virginia's leading Recovery Community Organization (RCO) committed to serving individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. It provides sober living, recovery housing, and other support services.
The McShin Foundation has received substantial federal grant funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.243) to support recovery services for individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) and co-occurring mental health conditions, particularly those involved in the criminal justice system. A $1.5 million grant funds the Intensive Peer Recovery Support (IPRS) project, providing peer support, workforce training to become certified peer specialists, and collaboration with harm reduction sites in the service area for individuals with co-occurring conditions being released from jail. Another $800,000 grant supports the McShin Reentry Project to decrease recidivism and increase long-term recovery for incarcerated adults with SUDs/co-occurring disorders by expanding access to treatment, peer recovery services, and reentry support during and after incarceration while training facility staff. The McShin Foundation also receives sub-awards from state and local government entities like the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the City of Richmond to certify and train peer recovery specialists, provide recovery coaching, and offer pre/post-release peer support and reentry services.
