About The Rodale Institute
The Rodale Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to growing the regenerative organic movement through agricultural research and education. They provide technical assistance, training programs, education, and outreach services to farmers and ranchers through federal grants, focused on topics like soil health, organic transition, climate-smart agriculture, and beginning farmer training.
Through prime federal grants from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, National Resources Conservation Service, and Farm Service Agency, The Rodale Institute has performed projects providing direct training to veteran, beginning, and transitioning farmers, created demonstration sites and trials related to perennial cropping systems and cover crops, conducted extensive soil analysis and greenhouse gas research, and developed farmer education curricula around regenerative organic practices. As a sub-awardee, they have partnered on projects supporting organic transition and mentorship, facilitating peer knowledge-sharing between farmers, performing trials and studies related to no-till practices and industrial hemp production, and contributing extensive research and data from their long-running Farming Systems Trial to analyze cropping system impacts on soil health and carbon sequestration. Partners have included land grant universities, non-profit organic certifiers, university extension programs, and state departments of agriculture.
