About the company
New Mexico Caregivers Coalition (NMCC) is an organization led by and for direct care workers in New Mexico. They provide information on jobs, careers, career advancement, and training for caregivers, and advocate for higher wages, better benefits, and worker protections for direct care workers. NMCC is a non-profit corporate entity registered to receive federal grant awards.
Through prime federal grant awards from the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), NMCC has conducted free safety and health training programs for hard-to-reach workers who may lack access to such training. The Susan Harwood Training Grant Program funded NMCC to develop educational materials and deliver training on recognizing, avoiding, and preventing occupational hazards in the workplace, as well as informing workers of their rights under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. These training programs targeted underserved audiences such as young workers, temporary workers, minorities, those with low literacy or limited English proficiency, and other disadvantaged groups. As a sub-grantee under the Christopher Reeve Foundation, NMCC also implemented the Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers, an evidence-based curriculum providing stress management techniques and support for caregivers of individuals living with paralysis. This multi-component program involved small group workshops covering topics like coping with stress, positive thinking, and self-care practices.
