About National Electrical Manufacturers Association
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is a non-profit organization representing the electrical manufacturing industry. It serves as a trade association for companies that manufacture a diverse set of products used in the generation, transmission, distribution, control, and end-use of electricity. NEMA provides a range of services to its members, including government relations, industry standards development, and market research.
NEMA has been awarded several prime federal contracts by the Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (DHS TSA) to provide expertise and support related to the Digital Imaging and Communications in Security (DICOS) standard. The DICOS standard defines formats for secure digital images and associated metadata used in security applications. Under these firm-fixed-price contracts, NEMA has provided standards development expertise, program management, and support for the implementation of the DICOS standard. The work has been performed in Rosslyn, Virginia, and the contract values range from $215,819.26 to $634,692.60. These contracts did not involve any set-aside designations.
Through a Cooperative Agreement with the Department of Commerce International Trade Administration, NEMA received $1,002,109 in funding to work on expanding U.S. participation in technical standards development related to advanced manufacturing systems. Under this agreement, running from October 1, 2021, to December 31, 2024, NEMA is identifying new technical experts for relevant committees, expanding U.S. participation on technical committees, training experts on the standards development process, and supporting international participation to develop relationships and experience. NEMA is also aligning technical outputs with business goals through council interactions, collaborating with the International Trade Administration and other agencies to understand challenges and opportunities in target markets, and organizing marketing/trade missions to increase exports of advanced manufacturing systems to those countries. This award is provided through the Market Development Cooperator Program, aimed at developing and expanding foreign markets for non-agricultural U.S. goods and services.
