About the company

Food Gatherers is a non-profit organization that exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in the Washtenaw County community. Through federal grants, Food Gatherers distributes millions of pounds of food to 150 non-profit programs serving low income adults, children and families.

Food Gatherers has received numerous federal sub-awards to support various USDA and child nutrition programs across Michigan. These sub-awards were provided by the Michigan Department of Education as the prime grantee. The sub-awards allowed Food Gatherers to support administration of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and other USDA feeding programs. Additionally, Food Gatherers used federal funding to distribute food in support of various child nutrition initiatives in Michigan. Based on the history of federal sub-awards, Food Gatherers plays a key role in addressing food insecurity through distribution of USDA commodities and support of child feeding programs in its state.
