About the company

Clean-Vantage LLC is a woman-owned small business that provides proprietary technology for biomass pretreatment and hydrolysis to produce biofuels, bioproducts, and methane. According to its website, Clean Vantage was formed in 2010 to exploit the company's technology for production of cellulosic ethanol and other alcohols, diesel, jet fuels and methane as well as chemicals and solvents.

Clean-Vantage LLC has received sub awards from Washington State University to provide services related to the development of an advanced pretreatment/anaerobic digestion (APAD) technology to increase conversion of sewage sludge into bio-methane. Specifically, Clean-Vantage has conducted pilot-scale testing of this technology, including building and operating a specialized biofilter reactor and immobilized reactor system. Additional services provided under these sub awards include: concentration of anaerobic digested sewage sludge feedstocks, assistance with optimization of the AWOEx pretreatment process, and construction and operation of an integrated APAD pilot plant system. These sub awards were likely funded through the Department of Energy's Bioenergy Technologies Office. Clean-Vantage partnered with Washington State University and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on this work.

SBA capabilities narrative

Clean-Vantage, a new company based in Richland, Washington, works on their patent protected BioChemCat TM process. The company uses wet oxidation pretreatment technology, an environmentally friendly process where no chemicals are added. Fermentation is done by a consortium of bacteria without adding enzymes, and where a high yeild of platform molecules are produced and recovered during the fermentation process. Catalysis is used to upgrade the intermediate products into the desired product. The overall process is a full concept with all parts of the biomass and process water recirculated and nutrients are recovered. The process is feedstock agnostic and allow for the conversion of any lignocellulosic biomass material. For an industrial plant a final fuel price of $2.33 has been calculated with a raw material price of $60 per metric ton (pricing data from 2007)
