About Children's Defense Fund

Children's Defense Fund is a national child advocacy organization that works to uplift all children, especially poor children and children of color. They champion policies and programs that lift children out of poverty, protect them from abuse and neglect, and ensure access to health care, quality education and a moral and spiritual foundation.

Through prime federal grants, Children's Defense Fund has provided outreach services to connect uninsured children and pregnant individuals to affordable health coverage options such as CHIP and Medicaid. This includes partnering with local organizations to identify the uninsured and connect them to coverage. The work has been focused in Texas and funded through cooperative agreements from the Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Children's Defense Fund has also received a variety of federal sub-awards to provide after school and summer programs, infant-toddler court programs, community learning centers, and agricultural and food systems support. These sub-awards have been funded through prime grantees such as the District of Columbia Government, South Carolina Department of Education, Enterprise Community Partners, and Zero to Three National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families. The federal funding agencies have included the Department of Health and Human Services' Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the Department of Education.
