About the company
Centro De Formacion Y Capacitacion Para La Participacion Ciudadana Focapaci, doing business as Focapaci, is a non-profit organization based in Bolivia. It aims to promote citizen participation, community development, and capacity building initiatives.
Focapaci has been a sub-awardee on a federal contract awarded to Management Systems International, Inc. Under this contract, Focapaci developed and disseminated information on conflict transformation, democratic values, and civic participation. This was achieved through audiovisual art contests, research articles, and various communication materials such as radio, audiovisual content, social media, and print media. The contract aimed to raise awareness among the population of El Alto about a culture of peace, democratic practices, dialogue, transparency, grassroots organizations' internal democratic processes, and social transformation.
Focapaci has been the prime recipient of two federal grant awards from the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) under the IAF Assistance for Overseas Programs (CFDA 85.750). The first grant, awarded in 2019 for $90,000, focused on improving organic production techniques, providing access to healthy foods, generating income, and strengthening the capacity of women and youth to advocate for public policies promoting nutrition, food security, and gender equity. The second grant, awarded in 2022 for $160,000, aimed to support community-led solutions to enhance food security, economic opportunity, and civic engagement for migrants struggling in El Alto's urban center. Focapaci worked with producer and consumer groups, local organizations, and public/private sector actors to develop neighborhood plans identifying priorities such as addressing food security, climate impacts, health emergencies (including COVID-19 and domestic violence), improving food production and access to healthy food, strengthening producers' access to local markets to generate income, and building leadership skills among women and youth.
