About the company
The Center for Transformative Action (CTA) is a nonprofit organization affiliated with Cornell University that supports change makers who are creating communities that are ecologically sound, socially just, and work for everyone. CTA provides fiscal sponsorship and organizational support to initiatives working toward positive social change.
Through federal grant awards, CTA has focused on increasing access to healthy, locally-grown produce for low-income households in the Ithaca, NY region. As a sub-grantee under grants from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, CTA has coordinated efforts to purchase subsidized Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares from local farms, including a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)-owned farm, and distribute them to low-income households. Additionally, CTA has piloted a "Farm-to-Pantry" initiative, purchasing fresh produce from local farms, including a BIPOC-owned farm, and distributing it through local food pantries. These initiatives aim to simultaneously support small, sustainable farms and increase food access for underserved communities. CTA has also partnered with the University of Vermont on a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide training to service providers on strategic business planning for complex value chain enterprises.
