About this program

The program encompasses five distinct funding mechanisms. The Targeted Technical Assistance for Rural Hospitals Program delivers in-depth technical assistance to rural hospitals struggling to maintain services, available for up to 5-year project periods. The Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program, currently open, provides direct financial assistance to eligible small rural hospitals—those with no more than 50 acute care inpatient beds and an established Medicare wage index value below 0.90—for up to 1-year periods. All programs target rural areas within non-metropolitan statistical areas or counties.
