About this program

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living funded nutrition services for Native American and Native Hawaiian older adults under CFDA 93.706, with the most recent grant awards disbursed on March 17, 2009. This program is not currently active—all grant activity occurred in 2009 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and no grant opportunities are currently open.

The program provided funds to Native American Tribal Organizations and Native Hawaiian Organizations that were existing Title VI grantees under the Older Americans Act to support nutrition services for older individuals. Funded activities included nutritious meals delivered through congregate settings or home-delivered meal programs, nutrition education, and related nutrition services designed to maintain health, independence, and quality of life among eligible Native American and Native Hawaiian seniors.

The Administration for Community Living was the sole funding agency, awarding all 246 Project Grants in 2009. The assistance-type portfolio consisted entirely of Project Grants. Combined federal dollars obligated across all awards totaled $2.9 million, with individual award amounts ranging from $8,930 to $21,810. Representative awards included Project Grant 0905SDT6RR ($21,810), Project Grant 0904SDT6RR ($21,810), Project Grant 0901HIT6RR ($21,810), and Project Grant 0907OKT6RR ($21,810), all with completion dates of September 30, 2010. Smaller awards included Project Grant 0942AKT6RR ($10,140), Project Grant 0907NMT6RR ($10,140), and multiple awards in the $8,930 to $16,610 range.

This program operated as a time-limited ARRA initiative and has generated no new funding or grant opportunities since 2009. Organizations seeking current federal nutrition funding for Native American seniors should pursue alternative active programs.
