About this program
The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living funds state-level assistive technology programs under CFDA 93.464, with the most recent grants awarded October 1, 2025. This program distributes annual formula grants to states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and outlying areas to improve provision of assistive technology to individuals with disabilities of all ages through comprehensive statewide programs. Applicants are designated by state Governors.
The program has maintained steady activity over the past decade, with 779 awards issued since 2015 and an average of 60 awards per year in the recent period—58 awards in 2025. Combined federal dollars obligated total $591.2 million. The assistance-type mix is predominantly Formula Grants at 67 percent of awards, with Project Grants comprising 25 percent and Block Grants 8 percent; Cooperative Agreements account for less than 1 percent. ACL is the sole funding agency under this listing.
Recent Formula Grant awards to individual states range from roughly $545 thousand to $1.8 million per grant, reflecting population-based allocation. Representative recent awards include $1.8 million to California, $1.5 million to Texas, $1.2 million to Florida, and $1.2 million to New York for FY2026 state grants. Project Grants, which comprise a smaller share of the portfolio, fund discrete initiatives: the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology received $690 thousand to expand ramp construction and vehicle modification financing programs, and United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan received $690 thousand to enhance direct lending and add financial counseling services for assistive technology purchases.
No new grant opportunities have been posted recently. The most recent solicitations on file—for national-level activities such as data analysis, training, and technical assistance infrastructure—date to 2022 and earlier. All were for Cooperative Agreements to support state program administration and public-facing resources, and all carried past-due application dates.
