About this program
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office on Smoking and Health and Division of Cancer Prevention and Control fund national networks addressing tobacco and cancer health disparities among underserved populations through Assistance Listing 93.431, with the most recent grant opportunity posted July 22, 2022 and due May 31, 2023.
Program activity is minimal and stalled. Four cooperative agreements totaling $19.8 million were awarded September 30, 2018, with performance periods through September 29, 2023. No subsequent awards appear in the portfolio, and the source contains no evidence of grant awards from 2019 through 2026. The program operates exclusively through Cooperative Agreements.
The program funds population-specific national networks that deliver training and technical assistance to tobacco control and cancer control programs, strengthen multi-sector collaborations, and support implementation of evidence-based interventions targeting commercial tobacco use and cancer prevention and treatment disparities. Recent awards funded the National Native Network (addressing American Indian and Alaska Native populations), Nuestras Voces (Hispanic communities, led by National Alliance for Hispanic Health across six regional nodes), the SelfMade Health Network (populations with low socioeconomic status), and the Geographic Health Equity Alliance (geographic disparities in tobacco and cancer). Award magnitudes ranged from approximately $4.9 million to $5.0 million across the performance period.
All four 2018 awards were funded by CDC. The program structure provides for cooperative agreement periods of one to five years with potential non-competitive continuation contingent on satisfactory progress and fund availability.
The most recent posted opportunity, CDC-RFA-DP-23-0015 (solicitation Networking2Save: CDC's National Networks Driving Action), was posted July 22, 2022 with a May 31, 2023 due date, seeking to fund population-specific national networks through collaborative effort with broad applicant eligibility (including nonprofits, government entities, for-profit and small businesses, and educational institutions). No more recent solicitation appears in the source. The program description does not indicate whether new opportunities have been posted after May 2023.
