About this program
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is funding training and technical assistance delivery to National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program recipients through Cooperative Agreements under CFDA 93.427, with the most recent grant awards issued on September 30, 2018.
Program activity has stalled since 2018. The portfolio contains only two awards totaling $14.5 million in combined federal obligations, both issued in 2018 and both completed by 2024. No grant awards have been disbursed in the past eight years. A solicitation (CDC-RFA-DP-23-0017) was posted on July 28, 2022 with a May 8, 2023 due date seeking up to four recipients, but the source contains no evidence of awards resulting from that opportunity or of any open solicitation currently posted as of October 2026.
The program funds organizations with national reach to deliver training and technical assistance to state, tribal, territorial, and local cancer control coalitions. Funded activities include needs assessments of NCCCP recipients, capacity-building program design, coordination with partnership networks, and development of technical assistance plans focused on policy, systems, and environmental change approaches across the cancer prevention, screening, and survivorship continuum. Two representative awards illustrate the scope: the American Cancer Society received a $6.85 million Cooperative Agreement to design and deliver training and technical assistance to NCCCP grantees and coalitions, leveraging 20 years of cancer control experience and partnerships with the Comprehensive Cancer Control National Partnership and National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. The George Washington University Cancer Center received a $7.675 million Cooperative Agreement to provide technical assistance emphasizing evidence-based interventions, policy and systems change, and health equity across the cancer continuum.
All funding under this program flows from the CDC; no other federal agencies participate. The program structure uses exclusively Cooperative Agreements with cooperative periods of 1 to 5 years. Eligible applicants are national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or public nonprofits with state and local chapter or affiliate networks, or universities with national reach and demonstrated capacity to serve all NCCCP recipients. Projects may be continued non-competitively after initial award if progress is satisfactory and continuation serves federal interests.
