About this program

The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) administered ARRA—Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (CFDA 93.407) to provide scholarships to health professions and nursing students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the most recent grant awards issued July 1, 2010.

This program has been inactive for sixteen years. The funding window was concentrated in 2009 and 2010, when HRSA issued 554 Project Grants totaling $39.8 million in federal dollars obligated. The program issued 281 awards in 2009 and 273 in 2010, then ceased. No grant opportunities are currently posted, and no awards have been disbursed since 2010.

Eligible health professions and nursing schools applied directly to receive funds to distribute as scholarships to full-time students from disadvantaged backgrounds with demonstrated financial need. The program was entirely funded by HRSA; all 554 awards in the portfolio were Project Grants. Recent awards show individual grant values ranging from approximately $2.5 thousand to $604 thousand, with typical awards in the $30–$100 thousand range. Representative awards include Project Grant T0AHP18342 for $604 thousand, Project Grant T0AHP18327 for $435 thousand, and Project Grant T0AHP18423 for $352 thousand.

The source reveals no current grant opportunities under this Assistance Listing. Do not pursue this program; it operated as a temporary Recovery Act initiative and is not accepting applications.
