About this program

The Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention operates the Centers for Genomics and Public Health (CFDA 93.063), with the most recent grant award dated September 1, 2014.

This program funds technical assistance to community, state, and regional organizations in genomics and population health. Awarded grants have supported HIV/AIDS care delivery and treatment programs in international settings such as Malawi and the Republic, tuberculosis prevention and control initiatives in high-burden countries through monographs and workshops, and public health infrastructure projects such as literature classification systems. The program delivers competency-based training, provides current information on genomics applications to public health workers, and supports integration of genomics into population health research, policy, and practice.

Program activity has slowed considerably. The portfolio contains only five total awards spanning from 2004 to 2014, with no grants awarded in the past 12 years. Award cadence was irregular: one award in 2004, one in 2006, two in 2007, and one in 2014. Combined federal dollars obligated across the portfolio total $8.2 million.

The assistance-type mix is split between Cooperative Agreements (60 percent, three awards) and Block Grants (40 percent, two awards). The CDC was the sole funding agency across all five awards, obligating $6.4 million through four Cooperative Agreements and $1.8 million through one Block Grant. Recent Cooperative Agreements ranged from approximately $1.8 million to $3.6 million in federal obligation, while Block Grants were substantially smaller at under $65,000 each. The largest single award, a Cooperative Agreement (U2GPS000740) supporting HIV/AIDS care delivery in Malawi, obligated $3.6 million.

No open grant opportunities or recent opportunity postings are present in available records. The 12-year gap since the most recent award suggests this program may not be actively soliciting applications.
