About this program

The Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention administers CFDA 93.056 to build state and territorial legislative capacity around public health policy, with the most recent grant award dated September 15, 2012—over fourteen years ago.

This program is not currently active. The portfolio contains only three Cooperative Agreements awarded between September 2011 and September 2012, totaling $1.4 million in federal obligations, with no awards since. The program funded one-year organizational memberships and technical assistance that equipped state legislators and legislative health committee experts with knowledge and resources to identify, develop, and support policies maintaining essential public health services and strengthening public health system efficiency. Awards ranged from approximately $340 thousand to $615 thousand per Cooperative Agreement. The CDC was the sole funder across all three awards.

No current grant opportunities are posted under this listing. The source contains no record of recent solicitations or applications open for competition. Given the fourteen-year gap between the most recent award and today, this program appears to be dormant or superseded by alternative CDC funding mechanisms for legislative capacity-building and public health infrastructure.

Pursuit of this funding line is not recommended without direct contact with the CDC Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support to confirm whether the program remains operational, whether a new NOFO is under development, or whether similar legislative-education activities have been consolidated into another Assistance Listing.

Objective and description

Objective

This program is intended to build the capacity of legislators and relevant legislative health committee experts through an organizational membership that represents legislatures from all 50 states and territories as part of the nation's efforts to expand and sustain national investment in prevention and public health programs. The purpose of this 1-year activity is to ensure that legislators have the knowledge, information, and other resources they need to identify, develop, and support policies that maintain essential public health services, while also facilitating the changes needed in the public health system to increase effectiveness and efficiency through better use of resources. This program addresses the "Healthy People 2020" focus area of Public Health Infrastructure and the CDC Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support's mission to increase the capacity and performance of the public health system, available at http://www.healthypeople.gov.
