This $851,295 formula grant from the Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services supports the Special Education Preschool Grants program. Awarded on July 1, 2021 with a completion date of September 30, 2022, the grant funds the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities ages 3 through 5, and at the state's discretion 2-year-olds who will turn 3 during the grant period. Through sub-awards, the grant also supports seven local education agencies - Providence Public Schools, Pawtucket School Department, Woonsocket Education Department, Warwick Public Schools, Cranston Public Schools, and East Providence School District - to deliver special education and related services to students ages 3 to 5 with disabilities and their families.
