The Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded a $55,961,467 Title I Part A Basic Grants to LEAs Formula Grant to the Maine Department of Education on July 1, 2021 with a completion date of September 30, 2022. The grant funding supports the Title I Grants to Local Educational Agencies federal grant program (CFDA #84.010), which aims to help local educational agencies improve teaching and learning in high-poverty schools, particularly for children failing or most at-risk of failing to meet challenging state academic standards. The Maine Department of Education sub-awarded the grant funding to 76 local educational agencies across the state. The sub-awards will help local school districts deliver services to improve outcomes for economically disadvantaged students in accordance with the goals of the Title I program. Total funding distributed to sub-awardees amounts to $55,961,467.
