About this program
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is awarding competitive Project Grants under the All Stations Accessibility Program (CFDA 20.533) to finance capital and planning projects that upgrade legacy rail fixed guideway systems for people with disabilities, with the most recent award disbursed on August 26, 2026.
The program funds retrofits and reconstructions of existing stations to meet Title II ADA standards, including platform elevation conversions, elevator installation, tactile warning systems, ramp construction, and boarding infrastructure modifications. Recent awards span light rail, commuter rail, and surface transit operators. The Pittsburgh Regional Transit award ($35.5 million) converts three low-level stations to high-level ADA-compliant facilities on the Red Line. New Jersey Transit received $20.9 million to remodel the Bradley Beach Station with elevated platform access and $33.4 million for full accessibility upgrades at two Bergen County stations. The MTA received two large awards: $195.6 million for elevator and platform work at two Bronx subway stations and $318.1 million for four stations in historically disadvantaged Brooklyn and Bronx neighborhoods. Other recent recipients include SFMTA ($5.9 million for eight surface stops), GCRTA ($20 million for eight Blue Line platforms, plus $10 million for East 79th Street), and MBTA ($84.5 million for Green Line B and C branch accessibility).
The program is active and accelerating: the portfolio shows one award in 2023, two in 2024, seven in 2025, and five through August 2026, with combined federal obligation of $633.7 million and combined federal-plus-non-federal total of $821.6 million. All 15 recent awards are Project Grants funded entirely by the FTA. Award magnitudes range from $1.7 million to $318.1 million; typical large transit agency projects fall between $20 million and $40 million, while smaller or planning-phase projects occupy the $2–$11 million band.
Eligible applicants are FTA Designated Recipients, states (including territories and Washington, D.C.), and local government entities that operate or fund legacy rail systems. The FY 2026 competitive solicitation (FTA-2026-001-TPM-ASAP) closed on May 1, 2026, and announced $686 million in available funding. No open solicitation is currently posted; the next funding announcement typically follows annual fiscal appropriations. Time from application submission to award ranges from 15 to 30 days. Grants remain available until expended and are administered through FTA's Transit Award Management System (TrAMS).
