About this program

The Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration operates the Green Jobs Innovation Fund (CFDA 17.279), a program that has not awarded grants since July 1, 2011—15 years ago—and shows no current open grant opportunities. Do not pursue this program at present.

The program funded workforce development initiatives in green industries including energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation, green construction, environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, forestry, and recycling. Funded grants provided technical and basic skills training through community-based partnerships and forged linkages between Registered Apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs to place workers in green career pathways across multiple geographic locations. The most recent solicitation, posted February 23, 2011 (SGA-DFA-PY-10-07), offered approximately $40 million and closed March 29, 2011.

All six recorded awards were disbursed on July 1, 2011, representing the entirety of the program's recorded grant activity. The awards were structured as Project Grants exclusively and totaled $37 million in federal obligations. Representative recent awards include a $7.96 million grant and a $7.88 million grant, both obligated July 1, 2011 and completing in 2014, alongside a $5.94 million award. The Department of Labor served as the sole funding agency across all six grants.

The program's last application deadline was mid-2011. No recent grant opportunities, no active funding announcements, and no post-2011 grant awards indicate this program is inactive. The source provides no evidence of resumed or planned funding cycles. Organizations should verify current program status directly with the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration before investing business development resources.

Objective and description

Objective

The Green Jobs Innovation Fund is part of the Department's vision for ensuring that workers have the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to succeed in a knowledge-based economy that includes high growth and emerging green industries. Green industries include the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries as well as sectors that impact our environment such as transportation, green construction, environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, forestry, and recycling and waste reduction. The Green Jobs Innovation Fund will allow ETA to build upon the lessons learned from the green job investments provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Through a competitive grant opportunity, the Department is emphasizing critical steps along green career pathways by: 1) forging linkages between Registered Apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, and/or 2) integrating the delivery of technical and basic skills training through community-based partnerships. The Fund will help workers receive job training in green industry sectors and occupations and access green career pathways.
