The Child & Family Service (CFS) will use a $250,000 Project Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to deliver a youth violence prevention program in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. The program, called "Ike Loa," will provide training to community partners who work with youth to help identify at-risk behavior and increase protective factors. CFS will also offer age-appropriate violence prevention classes to youth to build self-worth, develop healthy relationships, learn coping skills, and create safety plans. The overall goal aligns with the Children Exposed to Violence program objectives to improve family and community responses for youth impacted by violence. Key outcomes include 85% of youth gaining knowledge in prevention strategies, 80% developing plans, and 90% of at-risk youth receiving support service referrals. The three-year award period runs from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2025.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico received a $972,405 Cooperative Agreement from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (CFDA 16.818 - Children Exposed to Violence) to implement the Puerto Rico Intervention, Diversion, and Education (PRIDE) program. PRIDE supports children and youth aged 6-18 exposed to violence in two high-crime, high-poverty public housing communities in Puerto Rico. The program provides a three-tiered system of trauma-informed, culturally specific services, including universal evidence-based afterschool programming (Tier 1), targeted brief interventions and referrals (Tier 2), and intensive diversion and legal services for justice-involved youth (Tier 3). Key goals include reducing youth crime and victimization by 5%, diverting 100 youth from prosecution, and providing more intensive support to 275 youth through Tiers 2 and 3. The program is centered at the Llorens Torres and Arecibo Boys & Girls Clubs, with plans to expand to additional clubhouses in Years 2 and 3.
