The U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women has awarded a $700,000 Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Assistance Program (CFDA 16.589) grant to Lumbee Land Development, Inc. and its partners. This 36-month project, titled "Enlightening Native Daughters Sexual Assault (END-SA)", will: Reach 20,000 Lumbee tribal members with sexual assault education through media platforms; Conduct 10 outreach events to promote awareness of sexual assault; Train 20 staff per year on sexual assault and trauma; Develop, implement, and evaluate culturally-specific interventions, including certifying 7 SANE nurses and 2 community health workers; Develop and implement educational modules on sexual assault for nurses and nursing students; Increase direct services to address the needs of sexual assault survivors and their families; and Facilitate quarterly partner meetings to enhance culturally-based interventions and disseminate the project's work to other rural and indigenous communities. The project aims to advance equity and tribal sovereignty for the underserved Lumbee community, while preventing and responding to sexual assault through a collaborative, comprehensive approach.
